Charleston Historical Society
The City of Charleston is home to dozens of Victorian era homes. Driving tour of North Main, East Commercial, and East Cypress will take you by most of them. The Historical Society is housed in a lovely three story home circa 1899.

A.L. Webb School
Members of the East Prairie Alumni Association have worked to renovate this historic two-story brick school built in 1925. Today it houses several significant collections and school memorabilia. Exhibits and displays represent the history of the local school system and its students. It also houses exhibits featuring alumni military service and an art gallery of works by former students.

Mississippi County Historical Museum
Located in East Prairie, the Mississippi County Historical Museum has a new home. The newly renovated site is within close proximity and walking distance of the Cotton Belt Caboose, the Veteran's War Memorial, and the Olde Town Traders Mall. The museum features memorabelia from early Mississippi County and East Prairie. Exhibits, pictures and items reflecting the history of the area are on display.
Admission is free.

Towosahgy State Historical Site
The site was once a fortified ceremonial center inhabited by Mississippian Era Mound Builders untill approximately 1400 A.D. A kiosk containing a panorama of the history of this site is located near the parking lot and is handicap accessible. The site is owned and operated by the Missouri Dept. of Natural Resources. Open daily: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm for self guided tours.

Lewis & Clark's First Steps into the Louisiana Purchase
Located in Whipple Park in Charleston, found on Beasley Road at Exit 10 on I-57 and Missouri Hwy 105, immediately southeast of the interchange. View mural depictions of journal entries recorded during their encampment in our area, a black granite map of the entire journey from Monticello to the Pacific and the flags of the three nations which flew over our area.
